CHEERS TO THE GOVENAH….RACES IN ‘23 AND ‘24

Anytime we hear the word Governor, all we can think about is the drinking game where you go “cheers to the governahhhh!” TBH, it might even be called that, but our sources cannot confirm or deny, so here we are with that sound living rent free in our heads. Speaking of something that’s rumbling around our noggins – this week’s podcast episode with Ofirah Yheskel, the Director of External Affairs at Democratic Governors Association [DGA]. The interview focuses on governor races in ‘23, ‘24, and far beyond these near and dear years. Naturally, starting with the very year we are in, the interview goes into what could happen in Mississippi and Kentucky, and what went down in Louisiana. Loads to dissect there, not to mention the next part of the convo that moved to ‘24 and North Carolina and New Hampshire. We won’t spoil it, but we will share the link to the episode so you can be in the know, here, here, and here:

PS if you’ve already tuned in and heard us rave about how cute DGA’s merch is [we’re obsessed with this and this and this] – you’re in luck. The DGA has given us an exclusive discount code to share. For 23% off your purchase, use discount code: girlandthedemgov

SOMETHING(S) TO MAKE NOTE OF

  • Senator Romney discussing the reps coming to DC to make noise not pass laws is a mix of interesting meets concerning meets not surprising, yet will make us def check his new book out of the library to read.

  • While we’re on this random Republican tangent, Meghan McCain’s upcoming interview with George Santos has left us with loads of questions – and we’ll admit, curiosity that may just cause us to tune in.

  • This was delayed at ‘coming across our desk’ but this John Oliver’s analysis of a scarlet letter worn by Rep. Nancy Mace and a literal lasso being brought into Congress is worth a watch.

SOMETHING TO CHECK OUT

Cawlin’, beepin’, and alerting all NY’ers that the Climate Museum has opened a really cool exhibit in Soho called ‘THE END OF FOSSIL FUEL.’ It’s part informative, part action focused, with interactive tidbits throughout. The exhibit provides info and tools to empower visitors to see the connections between climate change and inequality, as well as to become strong advocates for climate justice with built-in, interactive opportunities, including a sticker wall where visitors commit to specific climate actions together and a station where visitors can write either postcards to elected representatives. For a little preview of the exhibit, check out our tour of it here – then get your free tix here.
