JOE, WE DID IT – WE HIT 200 EPPYS OF THE POD

Cue the champs and the convo on student debt relief!

The big 2-0-0 has arrived – like how?! Time seriously flies, which we get into in this week’s Hot Mic’d. It feels like just yesterday we were ordering mics and assorted equipment, but here we are, 200 episodes later and excited about the next 100. Wooohooooo! And this week’s episode features none other than Melissa Byrne who is the founder of We, the 45 Million. The conversation focuses on student debt relief and cancellation, looking at what’s been tackled so far, and what’s to come. We also discuss the issue at large and the many players involved [yes, Congress, Biden, SCOTUS because you’re totally reading this, that means you]. Get the download on the whole convo – and download it as well on Apple Podcasts and Spotify Podcasts + watch it on YouTube.

SOMETHING TO TAKE ACTION ON

An action from our friends at the Sierra Club

Say heyy and hello to the EPA before you dive into the weekend with a message on finalizing rules that will tamp down dangerous air pollution across the country. Hit send on that message here.

As for the backstory, the 411 if you will, basically medium and heavy-duty vehicles [like the infamous red truck Taylor Swift’s ex wouldn’t let her drive] produce more than a third of the climate pollution associated with transportation, even though they make up less than 10% of the vehicles on US roads. A small and mighty percentage in a bad way – le cringe. Anywho, earlier this year, the EPA proposed revised greenhouse gas standards for heavy-duty trucks and buses - slay. Together with other “Clean Truck” rules issued by the Biden Administration, the standards will remove hundreds of thousands of tons of pollution from the air and prevent nearly 3,000 annual deaths and hospitalizations resulting from respiratory illnesses. So, these rules need to be finalized, ya know get the show on the road as they say, to have an impact. Make that happen by telling the EPA to finalize the rules here.
