GOOD NEWS BEARS

→ NM GOV. LUJANN GRISHAM SIGNS MEDICAL MALPRACTICE BILL: New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham signed HB99, with the goal of reducing the cost to operate as a doctor in the state, and thus attracting more doctors as the state grapples with a shortage. Specifically, the bill reduces the costs of medical malpractice insurance, putting tiered caps on punitive damages. Additionally, the bill amends the evidentiary standard, and as explained by the Gov.’s office, changes it to “from a preponderance of evidence to “clear and convincing,” requiring judicial review before punitive  damage claims can proceed.”

→ NY GOV. HOCHUL ANNOUNCES LAUNCH OF STATE’S WELL PFAS TESTING & MITIGATION PILOT PROGRAM: A new pilot program has entered the chat for New Yorkers in two counties, soon to be six, aiming to address PFAS in wells. The program, in which residents in Dutchess and Putnam Counties receive their drinking water from private wells, has opened applications for free PFAS testing. Following testing, if mitigation is found to be necessary, residents will be eligible for a rebate to install a PFAS water treatment system or to connect to a public water system. In the months to come, the program will open applications for residents in Orange, Suffolk, Ulster, and Westchester.

→ WI GOV. EVERS SIGNS BILL EXPANDING THE STATE’S AMBER ALERT SYSTEM: In an effort to address the limits of Wisconsin’s Missing Child Alert program [AMBER Alert System], Gov. Tony Evers signed SB 466. The new law expands the age eligibility for which an AMBER Alert can be issued to include 10-and 11-year olds. The bill’s signing follows Gov. Evers taking action on the funding barrier faced by the alert system, allocating $300K in funding, along with two annual positions in the 2025-2027 Biennial Budget to address increased capacity.

→ NM GOV. LUJANN GRISHAM SIGNS HB 306, ENDING SURPRISE FACILITY FEES FOR ROUTINE HEALTH CARE: New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham’s pen has been booked and busy lately, signing HB 306 into law. The new law bans both hospitals and health systems from charging facility fees directly to patients for any of the following: outpatient care, outpatient vaccinations, and tele-health services. In addition, the law standardizes billing processes and patient notice requirements. The unanimously passed bill also aims to protect rural hospitals.

EXTREMISM

...that’s the tweet

  • Another day, another Republican group chat dropped – this time one that a member called “Nazi Heaven.” The leaked WhatsApp GC was OG created by the Secretary of the Miami-Dade County Republican Party, Abel Carvajal, who set it up for conservative students attending Florida International University [FIU]. The chat included a man named William Bejerano who wrote about a plethora of violent ways to murder Black people, the Turning Point USA chapter head, Ian Valdes, along with the College Republicans’ recruitment chair Dariel Gonzalez using the n-word over 400x, descriptions of women as “whores,” vast numbers of anti-semitic and homophobic comments.

  • Long-time bigot, Congressman Andy Ogles [TN-R] shared on Twitter that “Muslims don’t belong in American society.” The response to the post from Democrats was hell nah, and the response from Republicans was… hold on…looking for one…still searching…

  • Two men from Pennsylvania have been charged with terrorism-related offenses after allegedly igniting improvised explosive devices during a protest organized by far-right influencer Jake Lang outside of NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s official residence, Gracie Mansion. Authorities said Emir Balat and Ibrahim Kayumi threw two IEDs toward protesters; they later told investigators they were inspired by ISIS. According to an unsealed federal complaint, the men face charges of attempting to provide support to ISIS and using a weapon of mass destruction.

  • A Manhattan Institute survey has found that the majority of young Republican men are Holocaust deniers. By the numbers, 77% of Hispanic GOP, 66% of Black GOP, and 30% of White GOP believe that either the Holocaust was “greatly exaggerated” or didn’t happen.

Stories that are guaranteed to make it to the group chat

  • After attaching himself to the GOP brand, Congressman Kevin Kiley [CA] announced that he’s “leaving the GOP” to become an Independent. Despite the optics play, during what’s turning out to be a tough election year for Republicans, Rep. Kiley will continue to caucus [translation: work in hand-in-hand] with the GOP.

  • Kai Trump, the president’s granddaughter, went viral for creating and publishing content of her bringing her taxpayer paid for Secret Service members to diabolically expensive Erewhon in LA.

  • After speaking out against ICE, Senator Fetterman’s wife, Gisele Fetterman’s social media accounts on Instagram and Twitter have gone inactive. The only social account still online is her Facebook account, which apparently hasn’t dropped a post since last June.

  • The 2x time failed statewide candidate turned chief executive of the U.S. Agency for Global Media, Kari Lake was handed another “L” by a federal judge. U.S. District Judge Royce Lamberth ruled that Lake unlawfully served as the chief exec for USAGM a and thus many of her actions in that role, such as mass layoffs, are now invalid. Specifically, Lamberth found that Lake’s appointment by Trump violated the Constitution’s Appointments Clause and the Federal Vacancies Reform Act.

  • ICYMI, Kristi Noem is out, Markwayne Mullin – the Senator from Oklahoma who tried to fight the Teamster’s president during a Senate hearing and didn’t know the U.S. was at war with IRGC – is in as Trump’s nominee to lead DHS.

THE LATEST: ICE

A look at some of the horrifying reports emerging

  • DHS detained a U.S. citizen, 28-year-old Sunny Naqvi, while traveling through Chicago’s O’Hare Airport. She was held in DHS custody for 43 hours and then released in Wisconsin with a dead phone, requiring her to hitch hike with a person to a nearby hotel so that her family could pick her up. Agents denied that Naqvi was in custody to her family, despite her phone location showing that she was at the Broadview ICE facility.

  • Red flag city… DHS and the Secret Service are considering building out a tool to track travelers’ flight activity and related personal data. According to reporting from Mother Jones, the agencies have put feelers out to private companies on whether they can build–or already have– a system that provides real-time or near-real-time access to travel info. The proposed tool would collect a full docket of data, from passenger ticket numbers and payment methods to flight routes, and more, tapping data from third-party booking sites like Expedia.

  • A Haitian immigrant, 56-year-old Emmanuel Damas died from an untreated tooth infection while being held by ICE. According to reporting from AP, Damas’ brother shared, that Emmanuel had complained about severe tooth pain in mid-February but was never sent to a dentist before his condition worsened, with him dying from the preventable condition at a hospital, following months in custody–he had been held since September 2025 despite his asylum request being denied. For reference, the Florence Correctional Center where he was detained is operated by for-profit, private prison company, CoreCivic.

  • A mother and her two children were deported to Colombia after a routine immigration check-in. One of the children, who is deaf, was deported without their hearing aids. The family was located in Congressman Eric Swalwell’s district, and members of his team were sent to Colombia to deliver the hearing aids to the family which is now in hiding because they had previously escaped an abusive relationship.

  • New and incredibly disturbing reporting from AP covers allegations that staff at the largest ICE detention facility in the country openly discussed betting on which detainee would die by suicide next. The report cites 911 calls records and eye-witness accounts from detainees being held at the Camp East Montana Detention Facility, including Owen Ramsingh, who shared that he overheard a guard describing a betting pool hosted amongst staff. The guard Ramsingh overheard said that he’d put $500 into the pool, with the payout going to whoever most accurately predicted which detainee would harm themselves next.

IT’S THE ECONOMY

Money, money, money

  • Wisconsin said ‘get that in 4K,’ with the rollout of the state’s new film office, Film Wisconsin, which offers a new film tax credit to bolster the film industry’s presence and work within Wisconsin's borders. The tax incentive program also aims to strengthen the travel and tourism economy by bringing more creatives to the table.

  • The prices, they be a’ climibin’ in New Hampshire, with electricity bills up 11% since the start of Trump’s second term.

  • Oil prices – also as a result of Trump’s war in the Middle East – are skyrocketing, with the price per gallon reaching over $8 in California over the weekend.

HEALTH & WELLNESS

In the club, we’re all sick

  • Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon [R] signed a six-week abortion ban into law. The state now joins Florida, Georgia, Iowa, and South Carolina, becoming the 5th state to ban the life-saving form of healthcare. 13 other states have an all-stages of pregnancy abortion ban.

  • Florida’s Board of Medicine, which consists of 15 appointees who handle disciplinary cases [ex: medical malpractice], has four slots in the process of being filled. State senators are currently setting the stage for confirming Gov. Ron DeSantis’s appointees, including a notably controversial figure, Dr. John Littell. To step it back, Dr. Littell temporarily lost his American Board of Family Medicine certification in 2023 after he was accused of spreading misinfo about COVID-19. Dr. Littell, has also fostered a reputation for being anti-vax, anti-hormonal birth control, and anti-abortion.

CATACLYSMIC CORRUPTION

And other moves of disproportionate idiocy

  • Wake-up, three FBI interviews with a woman who alleged Trump assaulted her as a young teenage girl, just dropped. The three interviews allege that Trump assaulted her after Epstein introduced them.

  • Erika Kirk, despite seemingly no military experience, has been appointed to the Air Force Academy’s Board of Visitors, replacing her deceased husband’s position on the board. As explained by The Hill, “the Board of Visitors is responsible for making recommendations to the Defense Secretary for changes at the Air Force Academy. The board provides an annual report on the military institute’s morale, financial state and academics.”

  • U.S. citizens abroad continue to be largely stranded across the Middle East, with some who have been able to get out, sharing that the U.S. had no plan for doing so. In contrast, other countries like France, have been evaluating their citizens from the region.

  • Senator Tim Sheehy [MT-R], who last week gained a national profile for this unnecessarily violent scuffle with a veteran that was protesting, also appears to have added the word "hypocrite” to his resume. Okay, not literally – but certainly figuratively in voting to get rid of solar tax credits, despite having used them to install solar panels and battery storage at his own home. Per Politico, the words he used while running for office on the tax credits HE used, “goofy, subsidized green energy crap.”

CHRONICALLY ONLINE

Politics meets social media

  • Congressman Jared Huffman [D-CA] took to IG to react to the Trump Admin and its military leaders calling the war being waged against the IRGC as “God’s plan” for Jesus’ 2nd coming.

  • This clip of Trump is making its rounds because he says, while at the presidential podium – verbatim, mind you – “she has to be of age. Like above six-years-old.”

  • Where was Trump this weekend while his war raged in the Middle East? Golfing.
