GOOD NEWS BEARS

→ VA GOV. SPANBERGER SIGNS EXECUTIVE ORDER RE-ENTERING THE STATE INTO ERIC: Who is ERIC? Well, it’s actually a “what,” and the “what” is a longstanding nonpartisan organization that enables member states to share voter registration and ID data with one another to ensure accurate voter rolls. The GOP made it their business in recent years to attack ERIC, leading to former Gov. Glenn Youngkin [R] removed Virginia from ERIC, and made life for election administrators in the state way harder for no reason. Alas, current Virginia Gov. Abigail Spanberger [D] signed an executive order, having the state rejoin ERIC, ensuring a streamlined method for keeping voter rolls tidy and accurate.

→ AZ GOV. HOBBS & DES TEAM UP TO INCREASE UTILITY ASSISTANCE BY LAUNCHING POWER AZ: With utility costs skyrocketing in tandem with increasingly hotter weather in Arizona, Gov. Katie Hobbs and the Arizona Department of Economic Security [DES] have rolled out Power AZ, a $15M program to help more families tackle sky-high utility bills. The program notably brings assistance to families that don’t qualify for the federal LIHEAP program, which is estimated to expand financial aid to 30,000 households across the state. The portal to apply for aid is now open, with possible aid awarded based on income, vulnerability, and energy used.

→ NJ GOV. SHERRILL SIGNS EXECUTIVE ORDER AIMED AT IMPROVING NJ TRANSIT: NJ Transit is an experience…and not necessarily a good one [the writer of this newsletter is originally from NJ and is vastly experienced in the bullsh*t that is NJTransit]. But as Robin Williams once said in Mrs. Doubtfire, “help is on the way dear,” and this time in the form of an executive order signed by Gov. Mikie Sherrill. The two-part EO requires that within 45 days of its signing that NJ’s Commissioner of Transportation create a comprehensive plan for improving the following: cleanliness of the stations, trains, and buses; accessibility at the stations; public safety at the stations; and the app/website. Three public listening seshes will be held within 30-days to inform the plan, which Gov. Sherrill noted that she wants in action, making improvements by June 22, 2026.

Stories that are guaranteed to make it to the group chat

  • TMZ is entering a new era, one defined by keeping hot on the tails of elected officials, and in doing so has added a team to cover the Hill. The move comes after a weekend of coverage of electeds peacing out of DC despite no resolution on DHS funding. Notably amongst those caught on candid cam, was none other than Senator Lindsey Graham [R-SC] who took a trip to Disney World – translation: TMZ revealed that Lindsey Graham is a ‘Disney Adult’ that picked up a bubble wand.

  • New reports are alleging that Kristi Noem’s husband, Bryon Noem has been cross-dressing, and as reported by Them, and the Daily Mail, “messaging sex workers who specialized in “bimbofication” to turn him into a girl.” The report also shares that he sent $25K+ to three different sex workers who he’s messaged about their “huge ridiculous boobs.” A wild turn of events for the spouse of a former governor that constantly went after the LGBTQ+ community.

  • Over the weekend, Kid Rock posted a video to socials that showed him standing at the back of his Tennessee home, which apparently was built to resemble the White House, in Tennessee as a military helicopter hovered during a fly-by. The post prompted an investigation by the Army, which has since suspended the aircrew doing the fly-by.

  • In ‘a right-winger talks with another right-winger’ news, JD Vance told Benny Johnson that he thinks that “UFOs could actually be demons flying around earth.”

  • Trump’s approval rating continues to sink faster than the Titanic, with a new UMass Amherst poll showing that only 33% of respondents approve of the job he’s doing.

EXTREMISM

…that’s the Tweet

  • The new political director of the College Republicans of America [Kai Schwemmer], who in his short years on earth thus far, has forged a reputation for making misogynistic, racist, anti-semitic, and homophobic comments, and been dubbed the “Mormon Nick Fuentes.” Of the comments that have come back into the spotlight via reporting by The Guardian, are ones where he made wild claims that “gay men have been weaponizing the gym to give men AIDS” and that he would “accept a world in which slavery was legal if abortion was criminalized.”

  • In a deeply big brother-esque move, the White House has launched its own news app, which it claims will share “news” right from the source. However, it’s the fine print that's red flag central, with the app requesting access to users's network connections and biometric data. And while arguments have erupted amongst researchers on the apps location tracking capability, another feature is a sure-thing, and it’s the ability to modify and delete files on one’s phone. The app also enables users to report someone to ICE.

  • Idaho’s GOP-dominated state legislature passed a vile new bill targeting trans people. The bill, which is likely to be signed into law by Republican Gov. Brad Little, will restrict bathroom and changing room use based on one’s sex assigned at birth, and criminalize those who don’t follow it, with the penalty for the first offense qualified as a misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in jail, and a second offense qualified as a felony with an up to five-year jail sentence.

IT’S THE ECONOMY

Money, money, money

  • Period products are now even more expensive, with the cost of products going up 40% since 2020, according to reporting from CNBC. The reasons cited for the increase in price for basic necessity? Tariffs and inflation.

  • After throwing farmers and ranchers to the wolves with tariffs, Trump hosted 800 of them at the White House for the launch of the Trump Admin’s new “OnlyFarms” website, alongside a gold tractor. The website, which obvi tries to made a nod to the pay-to-play porn and nude-y site, that is OnlyFans, apparently is supposed to share details on a new bailout for farmers [paid for by taxpayers btw] and an interactive map that claims to show how much money farmers have “saved” thanks to the Trump Admin…

CATACLYSMIC CORRUPTION

And other moves of disproportionate idiocy

  • Trump announced that the ballroom he’s building where the East Wing once stood [RIP] is going to have a massive military complex below it. He shared this info in the style of a toddler tantrum complete with a poster board of the complex’s exterior, highlighting that this info wouldn’t be public if it weren’t for a lawsuit surrounding the ballroom.

  • While the DHS shutdown continues, Trump did something he could’ve done from the very start – signed an executive order ensuring retroactive pay for TSA employees. TSA employees will start to get paid again after 45+ days without being compensated for their work. ICE is expected to continue to be present at airports for the time being.

  • According to NPR, SecDef Hegseth intervened to block the promotions of at least six senior military officers, including several women and Black service members. A source told NPR that Hegseth has actively been “weeding out senior officers who are deemed ideologically incompatible."

  • Trump’s DOJ reached a settlement with Michael Flynn, putting an end to Flynn’s lawsuit centered on his allegations of ‘wrongful prosecution,’ and claims that the FBI entrapped him circa 2017 when he pled guilty to lying to the FBI about contacts with Russia’s ambassador. The settlement will dole out at least $1M in taxpayer money to Flynn.

THE LATEST: ICE

Details on what’s happening

  • Amidst a war in the Middle East, ICE will be in attendance outside of the graduation events of the nation’s newest Marines in South Carolina. According to NBC News, ICE will be there to ID if any attending family members are undocumented.

  • Congressman Dan Goldman [D-NY] has turned his Civic Center-located district office into what’s being called by MS Now, “a triage center for families of those detained by ICE agents in the same building and across the street at 26 Federal Plaza. According to the same report, the office has become an HQ for volunteer lawyers to provide help, along with access to other wrap around services.

  • The acting head of ICE, Todd Lyons has been hospitalized due to stress on at least two different occasions recently. According to Politico’s reporting on his panic attacks, one of the sources of his face turning red and sweaty, is allegedly baldy of terror, White House Advisor, Stephen Miller.

  • In Minnesota, a number of Democratic lawmakers reported being both targeted and harassed by ICE agents during the Trump Admin’s immigration blitz-style operation from hell.

Lawsuits & legal tings to know about

  • SCOTUS, in an 8-1 decision, ruled that states can’t ban conversion therapy for minors. The decision was anchored around the First Amendment, with the majority of justices claiming that the First Amendment protects the right of therapists, and that states can’t curtail the topics that therapists address with their clients. The ruling originates from a challenge made by a “Christian” therapist against Colorado’s conversion therapy ban.

  • As SCOTUS prepares to hear arguments this week on Trump’s executive order to end birthright citizenship, Trump took out his Truth Social fingers and got to ranting about the scope of the 14th Amendment. In his ranting and raving, he called SCOTUS “dumb” and claimed that the 14th Amendment only was meant to apply to children of enslaved people, and that rich people are trying to buy citizenship… claim that comes with an LOL attached given that he rolled the “Trump Gold Card,” an expedited way to get permanent residency in the U.S. by cutting a $1M check to the USA.

  • A handful of former FBI agents that had previously worked on an investigation into Trump’s alleged attempt to overturn the 2020 election results, and then were later fired, are suing AG Pam Bondi and FBI Director Kash Patel. In the lawsuit, the agents allege that their firings were in violation of both their First and Fifth Amendment rights.

  • A federal judge – U.S. District Judge Randolph Moss – has blocked a Trump Admin directive to end federal funding for NPR and PBS, ruling that the move was in violation of the First Amendment. In terms of what happens next, it’s TBD, since an inordinate amount of damage has already been done to public broadcasting.
